Step by step
- 1Choose how you will play musicTwo ways. Connect Spotify and play from a playlist, or add your own audio files to your personal music library and play those.Take me there
- 2Connect SpotifyOpen App connections and authorise Spotify once. Your own account is used - each host connects their own.Take me there
- 3Spotify Premium is requiredPlayback control - play, pause, seek and cue points - only works with Premium. A free account will show a premium required message when a song is meant to play.
- 4Open Spotify before you startThe host screen sends playback to Spotify on the host device. Open Spotify and press play once before the game, or you will see a message about no active device.
- 5Upload your own audioAdd MP3 or WAV files to your personal music library on your profile. This is the most reliable route and it removes any dependence on the internet for playback.Take me there
- 6Set the clipUse the waveform editor to choose what part of the song plays. A 10 to 15 second clip from the hook is all you need.
- 7Copyright is your responsibilityYou are responsible for making sure you have the rights to any music you upload or play at an event. A Spotify subscription does not grant public performance, redistribution or synchronisation rights - it is a listening service. For commercial events, check you have the licences your venue or country requires.
Common problems
Songs do not play at all
Check the host device has an active Spotify session, or use uploaded audio files instead.
A premium required message appears
The connected Spotify account is free, and Spotify blocks playback control for free accounts. Upgrade that account, or switch to uploaded audio.
Playback keeps pausing
The host device is going to sleep, which pauses Spotify. Keep it awake and plugged in during the game.
There is no sound on the venue system
Check the host device output is going to the venue speakers. Bluetooth devices often reconnect to the wrong output.
